Click a name to copy it. Search it on Spotify and social media before you use it.
What makes a good band name
- Easy to say and spell. If someone hears it once at a gig, they should be able to type it into a search bar.
- Not already taken in your genre. Two bands with the same name end up mixed together on streaming services.
- Fits the music. A name like Iron Serpents sets up something very different from Paper Kites.
- Works small. Short names are easier to read on posters, merch and a phone screen.
Check the name is free before you use it
- Search it on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and YouTube.
- Check that the Instagram, TikTok and YouTube handles are available.
- See whether a matching domain name is free.
- Search the trademark database for your country, such as the USPTO in the United States, especially before printing merch.
The generator only makes combinations of everyday words. It does not check whether a name is already in use, so these steps matter.
Ways to make a name your own
- Type a word that means something to the band, like a street, an in-joke or a pet’s name, and let the generator build around it.
- Take a generated name and swap one word.
- Say your favourites out loud as “Ladies and gentlemen, …” and keep the ones that sound right.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check if a band name is taken?
Search the name on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and YouTube, check whether the social handles are free, and search the trademark database for your country, such as USPTO in the US. The generator does not check availability for you.
Can I use a name from this generator?
Yes. The names are random combinations of common words, and you are free to use any of them. Make sure nobody else is already performing under the same name.
What makes a good band name?
It is easy to say, easy to spell after hearing it once, and not already used by another act in your genre. Short names are easier to fit on posters and social profiles.
