FL Studio costs between $99 and $449, paid once. There are four editions: Fruity ($99), Producer ($179), Signature ($269) and All Plugins ($449). Every edition comes with free updates for life, so you never pay again for a new version of the edition you bought.
Prices are in US dollars, taken from Image-Line’s pricing page. Image-Line runs sales a few times a year, so the price you see may be lower.
FL Studio editions and prices
| Edition | Price (USD) | Records audio? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fruity Edition | $99 | No | Making beats with MIDI, samples and the built-in instruments |
| Producer Edition | $179 | Yes | Most people: full songs with vocals or live instruments |
| Signature Bundle | $269 | Yes | Producers who want Gross Beat, Pitcher and Newtone |
| All Plugins Edition | $449 | Yes | Getting every Image-Line instrument and effect at once |
What each edition adds
Fruity Edition ($99)
The cheapest way into FL Studio. You get the step sequencer, piano roll, playlist and mixer, plus 23 instruments and 53 effects according to Image-Line’s edition comparison. The big limit: Fruity cannot record audio. If you only program beats and work with samples, that may never matter. If you want to record a vocal or a guitar, it will.
Producer Edition ($179)
Adds audio recording, the Edison and Newtime audio editors, and more instruments and effects, including Sytrus, Slicex and Maximus. This is the edition most producers end up with, because it covers a complete song from first idea to finished mix.
Signature Bundle ($269)
Everything in Producer plus a set of popular plugins: Gross Beat (stutter, gate and tape-stop effects), Pitcher (pitch correction), Newtone (pitch editing), Harmless and the full DirectWave sampler. If you know you want Gross Beat or Pitcher, buying Signature is usually cheaper than adding them one by one later.
All Plugins Edition ($449)
Every Image-Line instrument and effect, including Harmor, Sakura, Morphine, Ogun and Transistor Bass, plus newer effects like LuxeVerb. It makes sense if you want Image-Line’s whole toolkit in one purchase. Most beginners do not need it.
Lifetime free updates
This is the main reason people choose FL Studio over subscription software. Image-Line’s pricing page says: “When you buy FL Studio, you get all future updates to your Edition: Free, forever.” You pay once for your edition and every later version of it is included. Moving up to a bigger edition costs extra, but you only pay the difference.
Paying monthly: Rent-to-Own Plus
Image-Line also lets you spread the cost over monthly payments. Its pricing page says that after 12 payments FL Studio is yours to keep, with lifetime free updates. The plan includes FL Cloud (Image-Line’s sounds and mastering service), and that part keeps billing until you cancel it. The monthly amount depends on your country, and some payment plans are only offered in certain regions, so check the pricing page from where you live.
Is FL Studio free?
There is a free trial, but it is not a free version. According to Image-Line’s download page, the trial lets you save and export projects, but once you close FL Studio you cannot reopen those projects until you buy an edition. When you do buy, projects you saved during the trial open normally. That makes the trial good for testing whether you like the workflow, and awkward for finishing songs over several sessions.

Which edition should you buy?
- You only make beats from samples and MIDI: Fruity is enough to start, and you can upgrade later.
- You want to record vocals, rap or instruments: Producer. Fruity cannot record audio.
- You already know you want Gross Beat or Pitcher: Signature.
- You want every Image-Line plugin and the budget is not a concern: All Plugins.
Because updates are free for life and upgrades only cost the difference, starting with a smaller edition carries little risk.
