Prices are in US dollars and come from Apple’s Logic Pro page. Prices outside the US are different.

Logic Pro prices at a glance

Option Price (USD) What you get
Logic Pro for Mac $199.99 once Logic Pro on Mac, yours to keep

Apple Creator Studio, yearly $129 a year The same apps, paid once a year

Buy once or subscribe: which costs less?

If you only want Logic Pro on a Mac, buying it once is cheaper over time. Here is the maths with Apple’s prices:

  • One-time purchase: $199.99, and you keep it.
  • Yearly subscription: $129 a year, so after two years you have paid $258, more than the one-time price.
  • Monthly subscription: $12.99 a month, so after 16 months you have paid $207.84, also more than the one-time price.

The subscription makes sense in three cases:

  • You want Logic Pro on an iPad. Apple’s page lists the iPad version as part of Creator Studio rather than a separate purchase.
  • You also want Final Cut Pro or the other apps in the bundle.
  • You only need Logic for a few months, for a single project.

What is Apple Creator Studio?

Apple describes Creator Studio as “an all-in-one subscription to a suite of creative apps”. It includes Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro for Mac and iPad, along with Pixelmator Pro and other apps. According to MacTrast’s report on the launch, the full list is Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Motion, Compressor and MainStage, and college students and educators pay $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year.

What you need to run Logic Pro

  • Mac: macOS 15.6 or later.
  • iPad: iPadOS 26 or later, on an iPad with an A12 Bionic chip or newer.
  • Windows: there is no Windows version. On a PC, look at FL Studio or one of the free DAWs.

These requirements come from Apple’s Logic Pro page.

Is there a free version of Logic Pro?

No, but there are two free routes in:

  • GarageBand is free on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Apple’s Logic Pro page says you can open a GarageBand project in Logic Pro, so anything you start in GarageBand carries over when you upgrade.
  • The Creator Studio trial gives new subscribers 30 days free, which is enough time to decide whether Logic suits you.
